Earth Observation and GeoInformation for Societal Benefits Fostering GMES Downstream Services for the Regions – contributions from Research & Academia September 13 – 14 - 2012 Organized by the Centre for Geoinformatics Salzburg University Z_GIS at the University Mozarteum, Salzburg AGENDA (http://www.gmes4regions.eu/contents/vga-event-agenda) featuring the launch of the G4R Virtual GMES Academy Registration (http://www.gmes4regions.eu/vga-registration) The evolution of EO & GI services – the improvement of GMES Services and the development of Downstream Services in particular – requires the continuous innovative input and constructive criticism from academia. Related research activities and educational programmes are still un-connected and scattered over the ERA landscape. To facilitate the effective link between private sector, local administration and academic communities the “GMES Academy” will be established by the GMES for Regions Initiative (G4R) as a platform for exchange. The research community and academia will be presenting their offerings at an Information Market during the event. Launching such an initiative and stimulating synergies between academia, service providers, and administrations, calls for information on achievements and challenges regarding enabling instruments provided presently and in the future. To this end, the event will invite representatives from the European Commission and EU Member States to provide statements and/or contribute to panel discussions.
