"Dear colleague,
As we already communicated last fall, Ghent University and the Cultural Heritage Cell Waasland are organizing the international conference ‘Mercator Revisited – Cartography in the Age of Discovery’ from April 25th to 28th, 2012, in the city of Sint-Niklaas (Belgium). In attachment you’ll find the conference programme.
The conference focuses on the place of cartography in the 16th century and on different approaches to historical cartography of the Early Modern Period. Key-notes will be given by Prof. Georg Gartner (Vienna University of Technology; ICA), Prof. Jerry Brotton (Queen Mary, University of London), Prof. Mark Monmonier (Syracuse University) and Dr. Thomas Horst (Universität der Bundeswehr München).
If you haven’t already registered, you can do so through the website:www.mercatorconference2012.be/ registration. Early bird registration closes on February 20th, so don’t hesitate if you wish to register at reduced rates.
Please feel free to distribute this announcement through your network.
On behalf of the organising committee and with apologies for cross-posting,
Sincerely,
Bart Ooghe
