INSPIRE: Transformation Network Service workshop announcement
At the end of 2009, the INSPIRE Committee gave a positive opinion to an amendment to the Network Services Regulation including the Implementing Rules for thenetwork service of type transformation. (Amendment text)
The accompanying technical guidance drafted by the Network Service Drafting team does not cover schema transformation, although schema transformation is identified as one of the useful transformation service category. The available time and resources have not allowed the Drafting Team "Network Services" to propose a separate technical guidance for this purpose.
Consequently and to support the Member States for the implementation of this Network Service, the Commission awarded a contract to RSW Geomatics, 1Spatial and Rob Walker Consultancy for the development of technical guidance for the schema transformation in line with the proposed regulation.
To ensure an as wide as possible consultation of the technical guidance, the Commission is organizing an INSPIRE conference workshop at Krakow on Tuesday 22nd June at 14.00 (http://inspire.jrc.ec.europa.eu/events/conferences/inspire_2010/) where interested SDIC/LMO will have the opportunity to provide feedback and discuss with the authors of the Technical Guidance.
More precisely, the workshop will introduce the technical guidance, briefly demonstrate a prototype schema transformation service conformant with the technical guidance, and will aim at getting as much feedback from potential providers and users as possible to confirm if the conclusions reached in the Technical Guidance are understood and are based on correct assumptions.
The current draft version of the technical guidance is available at http://inspire.jrc.ec.europa.eu/documents/Network_Services/JRC_INSPIRE-Trans formService_TG_v2-0.pdf and it already incorporates many comments and suggestions from the INSPIRE Drafting Teams and Thematic Working Groups since the first version was produced earlier this year.
Finally, the Technical Guidance should be read in conjunction with the State of the Art Analysis report which shows which existing systems have been considered and which languages and formats might be considered as alternatives.
Hoping to see you at the workshop,
Thanks again for your help and interest in INSPIRE,
Best regards
The EC INSPIRE team
We would like to wish you all a very fruitful INSPIRE Conference.
Kind Regards,
